Berkeley Square Installation

The Brief

The University of Glasgow’s External Relations Team had relocated to new facilities at the prestigious Berkeley Square development. As part of this move, the University sought to create meeting and social spaces in the open plan offices of the Pavilion 3 Building, which would require a full Audio-Visual upgrade of the facilities. Having previously worked with the University on AV installations for its teaching spaces, Mediascape was approached to provide this solution.

Challenges

The three floors of open-plan office offered flexible working, but lacked the formal space required for both physical and video conferencing meetings. The University also wanted to introduce AV technology that would complement the modern vibe of the workspaces. 

Modular rooms were a key requirement, and each was to be fitted with presentation and video conferencing facilities. A social space on each floor required digital signage for the communication of university information and an open-plan area for group meetings was also on the wish list.

Solutions

Digital Signage

LG Large Format Commercial Displays and Onelan 4K Digital Signage Players allow for information sharing in each floors social space. The Onelan system is centrally managed by the University’s Information Services department, so alongside locally updated content the University can roll out campus-wide information via these systems.

Meeting Spaces

Early meetings with the customer, fit-out contractor and Orangebox determined the Audio-Visual requirements and allowed for the relevant power, data and containment to be considered in the upgrade works. Each Orangebox Pod received a large format LG Commercial Display with a Huddly IQ camera, with Genius framing and an integrated microphone for video conferencing capability. In the larger pods, Kramer VIAGO 2 sharing devices allowed for wireless connectivity.

Group Meeting Area

An Epson EB-2250U WUXGA Projector and discreet recessed electric screen provide the presentation equipment in the flexible group meeting area. A local HDMI input plate and VIAGO 2 Wireless sharing device allow for visitors to utilise the equipment. The projector was mounted neatly to the ceiling, along with the recess screen, meaning that when it’s not in use it doesn’t impact on the space.

Outcomes

Requiring small spaces that pack a big punch, the remit was to provide a consistent meeting room experience across all of the building spaces. This was achieved by using simple but powerful hardware from leading manufacturers. The LG screens are crisp and sharp whilst the Huddly Cameras and Kramer VIAGOs allow for a high-quality user experience. The Onelan system integrates seamlessly with the campus digital signage estate. The final result is equally attractive and effective and complements the style of the spaces.

The University’s External Relations Team has settled in well to the building and has benefitted greatly from the introduction of this new AV setup.
